The Lonely Soldier
Over there's a lonely
soldier
Wondering when the war will be over.
He's so tired from the weight of his pack
And he wonders if he'll make it back.
They've traveled far and
are so tired
So they stop to rest round a small campfire.
The land is hard in the place they found
But they are used to sleeping on the ground.
Lord watch over our sons
and brothers
Like they do with each other.
Lord send them home safe and sound
Where they won't have to sleep on the ground.
I talked to a friend and
to me he said
I got a call from home, my mama is dead.
He just walked off with tears on his face
God why are we here in this terrible place.
It's been many years since
we have come home
But over there is where our minds still roam.
When we die we'd like them to tell
I know he sees heaven, he's already seen hell.
